Honda Repair: speedometer bouncing around and shifting poorly, honda civic, speedometer

Question
i have a 1997 honda civic lx 4 door automatic. check engine light is on and i got it tested 6 months ago and honda told me i needed a new computer. the car would run rough in neutral and in park.  but my question is, i was driving it a few days ago and it was fine. i parked it to have lunch and when i came out to start it and started driving the speedometer was bouncing everywhere and shifting very poorly. it also felt really sluggish and had no power. i also noticed that the tranny would clunk when changing from a low gear to the 2nd gear. so i actually found a good deal on the same year and model and bought that instead of going to repair the old one. i hope i made the right decision. i would really apprechiate what you think. thanks for your time.

Answer
There is really no way for me to tell what the problem was with your old car for sure. That being said these Hondas were prone to speed sensor failures that have some of the same symptoms you describe.
Since this problem just randomly happened it is not likely that the transmission had any internal damage.

I hope this helps.
