Land Rover Repair: rough idle - Diesel Pump Fault?, throttle position sensor, suman roy

Question
Hi John, I have a 1998 Range Rover 2.5DSE and recently I have found that when the engine is idling (best example - it has stopped at a traffic light), it shakes quite a lot as though it is being starved of fuel. However, when I press the accelerator and rev up the engine, the shaking disappears (the shaking doesn't occur when I am driving the car).  Any suggestions as to what this could be? And how big a number should I expect to see on the repair bill? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Suman Roy,

could be a throttle position sensor, vacuum leak, air leaks, MAF sensor problem, temperature sensor.  Hopefully it's not the MAF, all else is small parts but big labour if you use LR.

Faster and less expensive to at least have the Rangie connected to a testbook to find the trouble.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
