Honda Repair: 2001 honda odyssey, sway bar links, tie rod ends

Question
we have a 2001 odyssey 150,000. miles has always gone to the dealer for all repairs and maint. about 1000 miles ago we started hearing a high pitch squeal when turning to the right moving or not. raised the van to get under to check it out noise goes away with van on jack stands. return to ground noise comes back.took it to the dealer they said replace sway bar links and tie rod ends they wanted 600.$ i did it for 140. still had noise. Drained power steering fluid refilled with fresh Honda power steering fluid still have noise. Back to dealer they said every thing looks good to them don't worry about it until something breaks. not the answer I needed to hear. can you give me any possible ideas to check. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Doug, this has to be a suspension component or the steering rack. But, before jumping to conclusions try to isolate the noise by jacking up one side of the vehicle and then turn the steering wheel. Nothing? Reverse sides and retry it. Still nothing? Hmmm... Inspect the struts and check that all of the bolts securing the strut to the chassis are secure and not loose at all. You say, "high pitch squeal" this would lead me to believe that this is a metal on metal sound.

This could be the brake dust shield. Remove the wheel and check that the shield is not touching the rotor at all! If you see any shiny metal on the dust shield facing the rotor then there is your high pitch squeal. Bend it back away from the rotor and retest.

That should keep you busy for a while let me know in a follow up question if you have future concerns.
