Honda Repair: 1988 Accord LX Distrubtor, vacuum advance, driven vehicle

Question
I have a 1988 Accord that I just had the head rework and it now runs great.  Except the vacuum advance on the distributor was broken and if pushed in to place it worked fine so I held it in place with a zip tie.  Sat 11/20/2010 it broke off completely.  I am wondering to replace it or the entire distributor or really want to know if there is a way to bypass the diaphragm altogether? Thanks.

Answer
Billy, nothing is impossible. I have heard of modifying these distributors but, then you are stepping into a different realm. I like to replace to stock trim at all times unless i am modifying a non daily driven vehicle. I would not suggest modifying or bypassing anything this can in turn effect your idle and could possibly give you an ill surge to your vehicle.
