Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton - No Spark, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a small Briggs & Stratton engine on an old Snapper push lawn mower that I am trying to get running again.  It was running 2 years ago, and at that time, for some reason, I decided to take it apart and clean everything up real good.  In that process, i damaged the magneto wire that leads to the spark plug.  i got it back together and it ran for a short period after that.  I put it on my bench the other day to see if i could clean it up again and get it running.  I found another mower with the exact same engine and swapped out the magneto just to make sure i had a good one in it.  as of now, i have tried both magneto's and i am still not getting any spark on the spark plug.  the points look really clean and have not been messed with.  is there anything you could reccomend to get this old girl running?  the information is as follows:  Model #92908  Type #1826-01   Code #77091228
THANKS!

Answer
Either clean or replace the points/condenser. make sure your gap is set to .020 in and that the points are actually closing.

Run a piece of clean WHITE paper between the points and condenser to remove any oily residue that is on the points/condenser.  This should take care of the problem.  Also test the spark with the BLACK wire not attached to the kill switch.

So first test -unhook the black wire that runs from the condenser to the kill switch...(from the kill switch)  IF you have spark you have a bad switch.

Second...Clean points and condenser..If no spark fo onto next step

Third....Replace the magneto with a solid state module and NEVER worry about points and condenser again!

One more thing...you don't have the magneto on upside down do you?  (LOL) been there done that!
