ANSWER: Nathaniel, the problem is the check engine light. When the light comes on your ECU (computer) is telling you that there is something wrong. Take your car to an AutoZone or other local auto parts store and they will check the code(s) for you for free. This will guide you in the right direction to repair the issue at hand.

Answer
Make sure your check engine light (CEL) is on the dash lights. Remove the passenger side kick panel. Somewhere in this area hanging is a 2-pin blue or gray in color plug. This is the jumper plug. With the key 'off' insert a paper clip between the 2 pins "jumping" the connection. Turn the key to the 'on' position. The CEL should start flashing in a sequence or sequences. Depending on how many codes are triggered. However a long flash is 10. A short flash is 1. So, 2 long flashes followed by 2 short flashes = code 22. Have a pen and paper handy and write down as many are there until they repeat.

Google search the codes for your car.
