Honda Repair: intermittant horn failure, mostly failure., honda accord, steering column

Question
92 Honda Accord lx manual 5 speed, 447,000 miles. Horn intermittent and cruise control seems to be out too. I've read about possible lost grd on steering column. Any merit to it? If so, can can a guy with some wire, soldering iron and wire lugs bring in a grd without smoken some circuit boards?

Answer
Do, horns don't generally fail. The wiring to the horn does. You can simply replace the ground to the steering column. But, I don't think this is going to solve your problem. Follow the wires - starting at the horn itself - and examine the wires for obvious damage. Expose the wiring loom every 6 inches or so as you inspect. Look for obvious damage points. Has the car been in an accident in the past? Or present? If so, inspect those areas where damage resulted and was repaired. Pull the steering wheel apart as well and inspect the contacts where the horn would be activated from. Then work down the steering column. With the loss of cruise control this makes me think that the steering column would be the most obvious point of failure. Don't worry your car does not have any circuit boards to fry. To be safe disconnect the negative from the battery for an extra precautionary measure.
