Honda Repair: ABS Light, computer brain, abs system

Question
Travis,

I own a 2000 Accord 4cyl and my ABS light is on and sometime it turns off but back on again. Took it back to the Honda dealer and they scanned it and come up with a DTS code 51 which they said I needed to replace the modulator pump. The first time they come up with the wrong code and said I had a ground problem.. okay. My car has never been wreck before this includes the front end.
Is there any truth that you can bleed the ABS system? The light came on after I disconnected and reconnected the cable harness from it not taking note to what this part was at the time, could I have cause damage just from this? Honda wants to charge me $1300 for the part and $800 labor is there a cheaper way if this is the problem? If so where?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Marcus, your Accord does need some diagnostic time done as well. ABS systems are very tempermental and when it is throwing a code there is a system error. Yes that is an expensive repair and i don't blame you for being weary about dropping that amount of money just to find out it doesn't solve the problem. Are they willing to fix their mistake in case they dont fix it completely? Or are they gonna charge you more money and time? With you just unplugging and replugging in the harness connections that will probably not cause the issue. Also, your ABS system has a computer/brain/ECU maybe they can run a diagnostic on the ECU itself? Yes you can bleed the ABS system but requires specific, expensive equipment to do so because it is under high pressure. You might be able to find the part cheaper elsewhere by doing some shopping around too. Try disconnecting the NEG. (-) battery cable for 20 seconds and see what that does too? Good luck...
