Motorcycle Repair: 1945 Military Harley, military bikes, foot clutch

Question
Hello-
I hope you still take questions.  I have found a 1945 military Harley.  It sounds like it's barn fresh, but is complete.  The owner states it needs gauges and other things but is complete.
I would really appreciate if you gave me your opinion on this.  He is asking $7500.  I realise you do not know many details but that's all I have.  I am waiting on a photo.  also he has a 53/54 Sportster K.  He is asking $4500. for that one.
My question is with that kind of vintage should I pass it up??

Thank you, Russ

Answer
Russ,

buying one of these will not be like owning
a newer bike of any make/model.
These are mainly for collecting not riding.

-It's value depends on the overall condition and
the engine size. Most of the military bikes
produced were "WLA" models. These
are side valve V twins or "flathead engines
about 750cc or 45 cubic inches.

The "big twin"  EL or UL models were very rare.

The military "WLA" is very old and reflects the
engineering of the times. Not very fast or
powerful and need lots of maintenance.
Some parts may be hard to find as well.

-When you ride one of these it feels
very clunky and mechanical in nature,
they have a foot clutch and tank gate shifter.

-Unless you like vintage collecting and
fixing and not much riding I would look
for something newer.
