Honda Repair: 1996 Honda Accord Error Code P0715, remanufactured transmissions, turbine speed

Question
Greetings,

My 1996 Honda Accord Check Engine Light is on.  When I put my foot on the gas pedal, the engine will make a racing noise, but the speedometer has a difficult time accelerating.

Sometimes the speedometer will stay at 20 MPH and then sometimes it will reach 40 mph max.  I had a diagnostic run and was told that it was a P0715 Input/Turbine Speed A Circuit Malfunction.

I had the transmission rebuilt in August 2005.  My father replaced the transmission fluid two weeks ago.  What could be the problem?  Thanks for our time.

Answer
You are in the market for another transmission. This is a typical problem for this year model transmission. If you had the transmission rebuilt already, chances are all they did is replace the torque converter & rebuild the clutch packs. You problem is in the valve body itself & this is the brains of the transmission. I wouldn't advise installing a used transmission because you are liable to have the same problem down the road. Rebuilding the transmission doesn't help because most of the time, all they do is clean the valve body out which doesn't fix the problem. I only install remanufactured transmissions because I don't want my customers to have the same problem 6 months down the road. Sorry for the bad news.
