Honda Repair: civic 1.5l 1990 wont start, oil filler cap, little beast

Question
335k, My civic wont start anymore. I started it yesterday, and it ran for about 30 seconds then it just stopped. The engine will still crank and Im pretty sure its getting gas because I can smell it like crazy when I try to start it. Everything else works fine. I know its NOT the main relay because I know what it sounds like when It doesn't work, no click or fuel pump.  I've had a code 16 since I got the car 65k ago, but now I have code 7, Throttle Angle Sensor? and one more thing. When it first died I tried to start it and the engine sounded normal when it was cranking, but I tried it again later last night and the engine sounded different this time. Like instead of 1,2..1,2...1,2 it sounds like its going 1,1,2....1,1,2....1,1,2... Sorry thats not very clear lol Hope you understand what Im trying to say. Please help! I want to fix this little beast lol

Answer
OK, I'm answering this at my home PC & I cannot remember my log in info for alldata online or identifix, so I can't remember what a code 16 or code 7 is. I'm almost positive code 7 is inside the distributor & distibutors are common to fail on this model. If it won't crank, you have to check for fuel, fire & compression. Most likely, you have an issue with the coil or ignitor, but I will check on my shop PC what those codes are & get back with you. Also, take the oil filler cap off & look inside the valve cover at the valve train while someone is cranking over the engine & make sure the valve springs are moving up & down. If you have a broken timing belt, the valve train will not move. This would explain the difference in cranking sound you have. Your car is OBD 1 & the vast majority of vehicles we service are OBD 2 or CAN. It's been a while since I had to deal with OBD 1, so please forgive me for not remembering what the codes are.
