Honda Repair: 1999 Honda Accord: 82,000 miles; engine turns off, honda accord ex, diagnostic check

Question
I have a 1999 Honda Accord EX, 4 cylinder,in which the engine just turns off when idiling.  The car is usally heated up, and normally kills when idiling in traffic.  It always starts right up and stays running. It does it once are twice a week, and has my wife nervious. I changed the spark plugs, but it is still doing it. Please advise, Honda wants $90.00 to put it on a machine this Friday, I am trying to get around this one. tks in advance, Michael

Answer
Hey Michael,
This sounds like it may be a fuel delivery issue of some sort. It could be a clog in the fuel tank, the fuel filter, or in the injectors. Taking it to a shop and having it hooked up to a scan tool would be a good idea depending on what kind of scan tool they have. Some scan tools only tell you what check engine code is being thrown while other can give more detailed information. I'm sure Honda has a very good scan tool, but $90.00 seems a little steep to run a diagnostic check. I will do some more research and get back to you asap. Good luck.
