Honda Repair: Constant knocking noise when coasting in 2000 Civic EX, car alignment, wheel nuts

Question
Hello,

My car is a 2000 Honda Civic EX with ~124000km on the OD.  Just this morning, when making a right turn, there was a single noticable thud/boom noise that was heard from underneath the car.  The car was stopped and visually inspected for what I thought was a blown tire, but no noticable damage was observed so I continued driving.  During my commute, I began to notice a slight rythmic thumping sound as I was driving, progressing to a persistent vibrating thump at around 40km into my commute. Car was again stopped but again, but no noticable damage was apparent.  I resumed driving and noticed that when accelerating or braking, the thumping went away.  The noise and vibration would resume when letting the car coast regardless of speed (varied from 20km/hr - 100kmhr), only stopping when the gas or brake pedal was applied.

Regarding repair history, timing belt was changed at 80000km, car alignment done at 90000km but is needed again due to slight drifting towards the left after snow tires were removed in January.  No accidents.

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Kai, the first tihng I would do is take a 19mm socket, put it on a torque wrench and check your wheel nuts. Those are the exact same symptoms relating to a wheel not being properly torqued and the nuts working their way off the studs. If they are loose torque them to 80 foot-pounds. Let me know, RICK
