Honda Repair: roaring sound in front end of 1995 Honda Civic Ex, front wheel bearing, bridgestone hp50

Question
this car is a 1995 Honda Civic EX 5-speed.  it has about 65K miles.  recently we have been hearing a roaring sound coming, we believe, from the front end.  the sound is slightly noticable around 30-35 if you are extremely quiet. once you get to 40-45 the sound is very noticeable and gets louder the faster you drive the car.  (sound makes you think of big tires on a truck) please tell me what problem we are experiencing and about how much should the repair cost.  the car is in great condition other than the roaring sound.  we replaced the front tires with bridgestone hp50 185.  my daughter tells me the noise was there before we purchased the tires.

Answer
Angela, it sounds like you have a front wheel bearing that is worn out. To verify you can jack it up and spin the tire while holding the coil spring. It'll feel rough if its the bearing. If it's bad enough you will be able to feel play if you grad the tire from the top and move it in and out. The bearing replacement including parts will vary depending on shop hourly rates but will come in around 250. Good luck RICK
