Honda Repair: 1999 Honda Civic Shaking & More, honda civic, exact problem

Hello,
My 1999 Honda Civic's has been experiencing some problems lately. And they only seem to get worse. I will try my best to explain the symptoms. It started with Civic not accelerating when I would want it to. Sometimes I would try and pass and I would hit the gas and it wouldnt do anything. I would have the gas all the way down and the car wouldnt even move, then it would eventually jerk into gear (i guess). At first it was not that bad, it would happen once in a while, but soon after it was happening more and more. I took it to a mechanic and after he "fixed" it, it worked for fine for about 2-3 days and then it was back. Soon after it was really bad, where I did not feel safe driving the car anymore. I stopped using the car for about a week and when I did go to turn it on, it started shaking violently, I drove it for about a block and it continued. Every time after, that it did the same thing. UNTIL two days ago, when I went to go turn it on, it would not even start. I have a half a tank of gas so I know it's not that. So thats my problem now, the car won't start at all, it sounds like it is, but doesn't. Someone told me to replace the fuel pump, and I did, but nothing. Sorry for the long post but maybe you can help. Thank you in advance.

Hello... Exactly what did the mechanic fix? sounds like it is not getting enough spark a cylinder may be out which makes you lose alot of power out of the car and makes it not want to even idle or start but I am not exact it can be many things but first I would like to know what the mechanic was fixing it will give me a better idea of the exact problem thanks..
