My water pump is busted. My uncle and I tried to replace it, but we are concerned with the timing belt. Is there a way where we can replace the water pump without tempering with the timing belt. It is my first car and I have replaced the brake pads. I am sure there will be many more problems, but I really need to fix the water pump. If there is a way where I can replace the pump without messing with the timing belt, can you PLEASE tell me. Thanx!!!

I have an 89 honda civic DX, 1.5L, 16 valve. Its my first car so I don't know much

Answer
Juan:
As best that I can find on an '89 Civic you should be able to replace the water pump and not disturb the timing belt. You may want to go to the parts store and purchase a repair manual if you plan on doing the work yourself. The library may have a book you can borrow also.
Good luck
