Honda Repair: 93 Honda Accord SE - OVERHEATING??, head gasket, carbon test

Question
Temperature gauge remains at half position after only one block driving.  Blowers come on.  Coolant changed, hoses replaced, thermostat had melted rubber inside, thermostat was replace with Honda brand, mechanic said the "spring" was too tight and replaced it with CarQuest brand with light wire spring and drilled holes on metal edge so water could flow thru. He found oil under the distributor cap but says the gaskets are okay. I drove away from the shop, and the temp gauge again when to half position within 1 block and blower fans came on.  I live about 2 miles from work and only go back and forth to work cause I'm afraid to ruin the engine.  WHAT CAN IT BE?

Answer
Hello Well a little know thing about car . It can have a bad head gasket. I would have a shop run a block test on the car or a hydro carbon test done . That is where they take a emmission analizer and test the radiator. If they find more than 50 HC's in the coolant it is a blown gasket or a cracked head. Also when the car is warmed up look for cold spots in the radiator. it is signs of a pluged up radiator. Good Luck
