Honda Repair: Honda 87 Accord lx (No gas in line), fuse box, carberator

Question
Gene,
Honda 87 LX  4 cyclinder auto,carb,2.0L
I just purchase a new fuel pump. (Located in the tank)I crank it over it runs ONLY when I put gas into the carberator. No gas in the gas lines. My question is why is the fuel pump not working? Fuses are good. Is there a relay I am not aware of? Also I think there is no power at the connection at the pump. What do you suggest?  Thanks  John

Answer
John,

In your car, there is a fuel pump cut-off relay. It is located in the dash fuse box. I have never seen one of these go bad in all my years of working on cars, not to say that its impossible, but it must be very rare.Be sure to check Fuse #1 (15 amp) in the dash fuse box. Otherwise the circuit is very simple.
Check for power at the yellow wire going to the fuel pump. You should have battery voltage with the key on. If not, then you have a problem from the battery to the pump. If you have power, I would question the new pump or check your ground.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
