Honda Repair: 1987 Honda - replace steering high pressure hose?, high pressure hoses, high pressure hose

Question
I have a 1987 Accord (4dr), 2.0 litre fuel injected sedan. I would like to attempt to change the high pressure hose.  I have a slow leak and feel the hose is the cause.  I can feel oil moisture on the rubber sleeve.  On several occasions I filled the steering fluid container to the top notch indicator on the bottle.  After a few days the levels decreased by about 2 inches.  I must mention that I have no mechanical experience, but feel with the proper guidance and pictures hopefully I can do it.

Thanks for your time and advise.

Dom.

Answer
Dom,

First, you need to confirm the leak. Make sure it is leaking where you think it is. You can cause yourself a lot of money and aggravation by replacing the wrong part. Check the rack itself. Pull the rack boot back and see if any fluid leaks out. That is a common problem and may the problem in your case. Also the high pressure hoses are very common to leak.
If you attempt it, it is not a  easy job. Be sure you read up on it, and have the proper tools. Do you have a flare nut wrench? Do you have a good set of sockets and a swivel head ratchet? These are some of the tools you will need. I would suggest buying a Factory service manual if you plan on doing any of your own work.
Good luck and thanks for the question.
