Honda Repair: 1994 Honda Accord EX 4dr Tie Rod, wheel alignment, brake rotors

Question
I recently purchased tires and was informed my Left outter tie rod needed replacement (This was found when the tech was attempting to perform a 4 wheel alignment).  I am very capable but was wondering how difficult this repair is?  Are there any special tools needed or tricks I need to be aware of?  I have noticed (pre and post new tires) some "wobble/shaking" when I apply the brakes, is this a symptom of a bad tie rod?

Thanks!

Answer
Scott,
I hope that the tech doing the alignment did not continue with the alignment. If he did continue without replacing the tie rod and charged you, then you wasted your money. You see if you replace the tie rod end, your alignment is going to be out again. You will need to buy another alignment. Either way, right now your car is out of alignment. With play in the tie rod end, there is no way the alignment is within specs.
To replace the tie rod is easy. Just remove the wheel, the nut for the tie rod end, and get a hammer and hit the knuckle where the tie rod is. unscrew it and put the new one on. Oh yea, then get the alignment done.
Your wobble is most likley front brake rotors that are out of round. You need them turned.
Good luck
