Honda Repair: Honda transmission, honda transmission, model honda

Question
I found a 1991 Honda Accord in a salvage yard.
It had been hit from the rear. It is not shifting properly. The key gets stuck in the ignition switch, it's hard to shift into gear and it is sluggish. The engine purrs and I would like to keep it. Is it possible the transmission filter on this model Honda could be a problem? I've heard if it isn't changed it stops the fluid from circulating. I need help!

Answer
JW,
Is the D4 light flashing? I guess it is not since you did not mention it. If it was, you may have a problem with the computer or possible trans sensors.
But since you did not mention it, I will assume it was not flashing. As far as the hard shifting into gear, the shift cable is probally rusted inside and needs a new one. These run about $300 installed at a dealer and is a common problem. As far as the sluggish shifting, I would try and flush the trans. first. There is a filter in that trans. but you must disassemble the trans to get to it! A lot of work. Normally this filter requires no attention, and if it was clogged, the car would run and move for a while, but as you drove down the highway, the car would get slower and slower until it finally stopped moving. This is not the case with you.
Sound like you may end up needing a trans if the flush does not fix it.
sorry for the bad news.
Good luck
