The best way to start a car after you run out of gas is to fill the tank, turn the key to the "on" position for 3 seconds, then off, then "on" for 3 seconds, and repeat a few more times. (every time you turn your key on, the fuel pump cycles for 2 seconds, then stops) By doing this, you will build up fuel pressure in the line. After you have completed this step, try and start the car. It should start right up.
