Hyundai Repair: Throttle Position Sensor, hyundai sonata 2002, throttle position sensor

Question
My Hyundai Sonata 2002 (2.4 L) automatic transaxle delivered a gear box problem a month ago. After changing the gear box we couldn't change the gears. We put the LX431 diagnostic machine and it mentioned the trottle position sensor as the problem.
Where do we go from here. Bought the car in New Jersey but using it in Ghana, Africa. Thanks

Answer
Hi, Paa.  I can tell you that a malfunctioning throttle position sensor can cause abnormal transmission shifting.  But that fact that you have a code indicating a problem with the throttle position signal doesn't necessarily indicate that it's the sensor that's the problem.

Can you tell me the actual diagnostic trouble codes that are stored in the engine/transmission computer?  This will help me ascertain what the computer doesn't like about the signal and direct you toward checking those things that are more likely to be the cause.

I have seen a few vehicles where the wiring to the throttle position sensor is broken near the throttle position sensor.  I've also seen vehicles where the throttle cable is damaged during servicing, causing a number of different issues.
