Hyundai Repair: 2000 Sonata CPS failed after one day, crankshaft sensor, sensor plate

Question
Hello.

We just replaced the crank position sensor on a 2000 Sonata after it tripped code P0335 and would not start. We also did the complete timing belt. One day after the job it stopped again with the same code - P0335 and will not start. Any idea what would cause the new sensor to fail only after one day? Maybe something
damaged the original sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Since you've replaced the crankshaft sensor and timing belt at the same time, I'm going to presume you have the 2.4 four cylinder engine.

Problems with the sensor can reoccur if:
1.  The plate the sensor reads is bent during servicing.
2.  The sensor wiring is misrouted, causing it to rub against moving components behind the timing cover.
3.  There is debris inside the timing cover.  This debris can be forcibly slammed into the cranks sensor by the timing belt and sensor plate.
