Hyundai Repair: cold starting, coolant temperature sensor, fuel pressure regulator

Question
this only happens in the morning, I have to crank and stop several times before it will start. Is there some sort of cold sensor on this vehicle that would cause this. After is started it will continue to start throughtout the day. 2003 hyundai accent.

Answer
There is a coolant temperature sensor which the engine control module (ECM) monitors to help determine proper fuel mixture.  Although a potential cause, it's not among the more frequent causes of this type of condition.

More frequently, the problem is that the fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump bleeds off fuel pressure gradually while the engine is off.  In this vehicle, the fuel pressure regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly, so if you do indeed have an issue with fuel pressure bleeding off, replacing the entire fuel pump assembly should cure it.
