i have a 2001 hyundai xg300. when i go to drive it, it goes in reverse hard. and when i put it in drive and go to pull off it feels like its in neutral, like its starting off in 3rd gear

If you're starting off in third gear, this is probably because the transmission control module (TCM) has done this to make the car driveable even though the there's a problem that would prevent it from operating the transmission properly.  To determine the nature of the problem, you'll need to read the diagnostic trouble codes from the TCM.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll read trouble codes for free, but I've also heard some reports which seem to imply certain tools they use cannot communicate with the TCM, so you may ultimately need to pay someone or purchase a code reader yourself to read the codes.
