Hyundai Repair: obd, malfunction indicator light, autozone

Question
My car failed emissions inspection due to an inoperable on-board diagnostic malfunction indicator light [ obdmil] is this an easy thing to fix and is it expensive ? should i have a mechanic look at the car and repair it or can it be done easily myself ?

                          Thank You

Answer
In most cases, this will have occurred because the check engine bulb has burned out or has been removed.  To repair this, simply remove the cluster and replace or install the bulb.

Of course, if the bulb has been removed, you should expect this is because someone was trying to hide the fact that the lamp was on in the first place, and that now there will be a problem that needs to be fixed to get the lamp to go out.  You might also have the engine control module (ECM) scanned for codes to see if there are any further problems.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll do this at no charge.
