Hyundai Repair: bolts coating, 2002 hyundai sonata, hyundai sonata

Question
I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. Replaced back plugs so had to remove upper intake. Do I need to use anything on them when I replace them? Also, the air temp sensor (black plastic) thats in the center, I took it out because I was going to clean the intake. Does it need locktite or anything? It has a red residue left from before, and should I clean the sensor, and if so, what is safe to use to clean it? Appreciate it! Robert

Answer
Do not apply anything to the plug threads when replacing.  If you'd like, you can put some dielectric grease in the plug wire ends.  Because of the difficulty of replacing the plugs on this engine, I typically recommend replacing the plug wires at the same time.

The loctite residue on the sensor should be plenty.  In fact, an application such as this sensor shouldn't need any thread locker at all; it's not holding anything together and just needs to be tight enough to stay in place.  I'd recommend not cleaning it.  I don't know what the sensor is made of, so I cannot tell you what may damage it.  It's normal to accumulate some gunk in the manifold, so I'm sure the sensor is designed with this in mind.
