Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Lantra 1.8 Automatic transmission problem, automatic transmission problem, hyundai lantra

Question
My Hyundai Lantra 1.8 automatic transmission stopped moving on the Highway but the engine was still running. The automatic gear transmission engaged in drive position but the car could not move. Please kindly advise on what is the likely problem and what to do.

Answer
The most likely problem is that there's a problem in the transmission requiring overhaul or replacement, but there are a couple items to check first.

-- Is the fluid level proper?  If not the problem may be caused by a fluid leak or a ruptured fluid cooler in the radiator causing the fluid to mix with the coolant.

-- When you put the car in gear and rev the engine, does the speedometer remain at zero (presuming the vehicle is still not moving)?  If not, one of the axles may be broken or disengaged from the transmission.
