Land Rover Repair: 2004 Freelander TD4 will not start., freelander td4, obdii connector

Question
Hi there,
The engine of my Freelander TD4 turns over but refuses to start. On turning the key to ignition i can hear the fuel pumps working and have also checked to see that fuel does get to the injectors. What i have noticed is that the glow plug relay does not operate and i do not have 12v at the injectors. The 12v volt supply to the injectors and the earth to operate the glow plug relay should be supplied by the ECM.If i earth the glow plug relay it operates and all the voltages are present to the ECM.The explanation of the management system states hat if all the criteria are correct an earth will be supplied to the glow plug relay but unfortunately it does not state what the criteria are.I assume that because the engine is cranking that the immobiliser is operating correctly. Can you help or is the ECM blown. Also, the diagnostic port is not operational.
Regards.

Answer
Hi Raymond,

if you are having trouble with your OBDII connector it could be that the ECM is not recognizing the link.  Not a good sign.  Sometimes the ignition switch is faulty and this could trigger the ECM failure but in your case you do not mention this problem.  Sounds more like an ECM problem.  You'll have to have the ECM tested before you proceed any further.

Best of luck,
