Hyundai Repair: Hyndai Lantra 1999, speedometer cable, fuse box

Question
I have some problems with Km .. It does not show the speed i am going, where can i  find fuses from it or cable?

Answer
The following presumes your speedometer works similarly to that on a U.S. Elantra 1999.

The speedometer shares power and ground with the other gauges.  So if they're working, the fuses and wiring are okay.  If you need to check the fuse, it should be located in the fuse box in the left kick panel.

Most likely, the speedometer cable is broken.  It runs from the back of the instrument cluster through the firewall and attaches to the top of the differential portion of the transmission.  It'll be easiest to access the transmission end of the cable for inspection.  Simply follow the cable as it comes through the firewall down to the transmission.  Unscrew the attachment to the transmission and then check whether the cable is broken internally.  If so, you'll typically be able to pull out a small portion of cable, or you may even find it still in the transmission.

If the cable is okay, the speedometer driven gear in the transmission may be worn.  This is typically easily serviced by removing the 10mm bolt holding the housing in place and simply pulling the gear housing assembly out of the top of the differential housing.
