Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts (John Deere) L2048 Lawn Tractor, brake safety, style switch

Question
John:

I have the above mower. It will not start - not even crank. I think it is a safety switch somewhere in the circuit. I replace the one under the seat, but that didn't fix it. It seems if you get the parking brake in just the right spot, it will crank and start. Is there a switch in that area also? I checked the parts catalog and see a second switch but it doesn't show the location. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hello Larry:

Check for the Brake Safety Switch at the Brake Pedal on the Under Side of the Mower or Under the Hood on the Frame Near the Side Panel on the Same Side as the Brake Pedal. This is a Plunger Style Switch and from your Description it Sounds like it is Bad or the Mounting Support has Broken; this Allows the Switch to Move Away from the Actuator. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
