Hyundai Repair: how to fix radio antenna, antenna assembly, radio antenna

Question
i want to know the steps in trying to fix a radio antenna for a 03 hyundai sonata. the antenna does not go up or down. radio is very staticky.

Answer
First, you'll need to determine the nature of the problem.

Does the power antenna motor run when the radio is turned on/off?  If so, we already know the antenna motor receives the proper inputs and runs.

If not, you'll need to determine the nature of the problem.  To do this, remove the trim from the left side of the trunk and disconnect the three wire connector from the power antenna relay.

You should have 12V in the orange wire on pin #1 at all times.  If not, check for a blown fuse in the dash fuse box.

The gray (or green) wire on pin #2 should supply 12V power when the radio is on and no voltage when off.  If not, you need to check whether the radio is sending the signal to operate the antenna.

The black wire should apply ground at all times.  If not, you'll need to check for a loose ground lug or a broken ground wire.

If all the above electrical checks are ok, the problem is in the antenna and you'll need to replace the antenna assembly.
