Hyundai Repair: Elantra 2003, trouble code, tranmission

Question
My Elantra 2003 started to have a problem.
When I am driving on the highway, sometimes the transmission does not seem to be working.  The car does not want to switch gears, and the rpms go up high, the engine makes a loud noise, and the check engine light turns on.  I noticed that if I pull over, turn off the engine and restart, the car seems to work with no probelm and the check engine light turns off. What could be the cause of this?

Answer
Hello Mariann,
It sounds like your tranmission is giving up. To make sure we will need the trouble code/s stored in the system. Even the check engine light is off, once code is stored , it stays in the system until it is erased. Most of the parts stores have scanner. Ask them to check for the trouble code. After you get the code , let me know.
