Hyundai Repair: Fault code, obd ii code reader, obd ii code

Question
A couple weeks ago my airbag light came on after I had my instrument cluster removed and the light has been on ever since. This weekend I was planning on bringing the car ('99 Accent) in to the dealership for a scan but a friend of mine had an off the shelf scan tool which he hooked up and received code 1700 but it wasn't listed in the manual. Do you know if it pertains to the airbag system and what it means. The scan tool we used would not reset the code.

Answer
I don't show a code 1700 in either the powertrain (P1700) or air bag (B1700) systems.  If the scan tool is a generic OBD-II code reader, it won't read the air bag system.

I expect you have code B2500 in the air bag computer, indicating there's a problem with the warning indicator circuit.  To check and clear this, you'll need to visit the dealer or a shop with a scan tool capable of reading the air bag codes.
