Hyundai Repair: car overheating, water inlet, coolant

Question
My son has a 2004 Elantra. The temp gage goes up to "H" after car has been on for a short time. We added coolant as that appeared to be low. Think it is the thermostat but can't seem to locate the thermostat to replace it. Where is it located or how do we change it?

Answer
Hi, Gena.  The thermostat is in the coolant housing on the transmission end of the engine.  To access it, you'll need to remove the air filter box.  Then, pull the plastic cover away from the coolant housing and remove the two 12mm nuts holding the water inlet onto the housing.
