QuestionI would like to replace the worn gear boot lever on my 1999 Excel but do not know how to remove the console mounted around the gear stick. Can someone please advise me how to do this.
Answer1. Unscrew the gearshift knob and remove.
2. Remove the two #2 Phillips screws from the rear of the console, lift the rear console up, and snap it off of the front portion of the console, pulling it off of the parking brake lever to remove.
3. Remove the two newly exposed screws on the rear of the front portion of the console and the two screws at the front of the console, one on each side.
You should now be able to remove the front portion of the console from the shifter and access the boot.
