Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Accent 2001 Chugging along, hyundai accent 2001, hyundai accent

Question
My accent has approx. 40,000 miles on it and has had regular oil changes.  It has started chugging along on me, almost like the gas isn't getting where it needs to go.  If it is damp or rainy out, it is worse.  Once I get moving it seems to run okay, but continues to be sluggish in stop and go traffic.

thanks.

Answer
The fact that you indicate the vehicle is "chugging" leads me to believe the engine may be misfiring.  Normally, this will cause the check engine lamp to illuminate with a stored trouble code of P030x, where x represents the number of the misfiring cylinder, or P0300, which indicates a misfire on more than one cylinder.

Most misfires are caused by the secondary ignition system.  So, if you indeed have a misfire, you should begin with checking the spark plugs, plug wires, and ignition coils.
