Hyundai Repair: Gas nozzle area, nozzle area, gas nozzle

Question
An odd question maybe (?) - where you put the gas nozzle in when filling gas there is usually a metal hinge or "door" right after the gas cap on most cars, that the nozzle opens to put gas into the tank. I just filled up my brand new 07 Elantra for the first time and there is no such device. There is only a hole going directly into the gas tank. Should there be one there? And if there is supposed to be on there, do you think any damage has been caused, or could this piece of material actually fallen into the tank itself sometime during delivery?

Answer
I believe the purpose of the flapper in the filler neck inlet was to prevent fuel from spilling out in the event the vehicle rolled over.  On your vehicle, there is valving in the tank to prevent fuel from coming out of the tank into the filler neck, so this flapper isn't necessary or present.
