Hyundai Repair: 2001 hyundai elantra, transmission control module tcm, hyundai elantra

Question
I have a 2001 Elantra with about 92,000 miles. In the past week I have been having a problem with the car jerking while driving. Usually it occurs a about 40 mph while accelerating, but it has also occurred at a steady 60 mph and while idling at a stop light. After this happens the car has very little pick up from 0-30. If I stop the car and restart it is fine at least for a while. I went to Autozone as I have not been able to get my car in for repair and the malfunction code was p1529. I was wondering what to expect to be paying for repairs, or if the repairs were something simple enough to do on my own with some instructions.
Thank you.

Answer
P1529 is simply a place-holder in the engine control module (ECM) that indicates the transmission control module (TCM) has requested the check engine lamp to be turned on.  Frequently, the cause is an input or output speed sensor, but you'll need to read the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM to determine the nature of the issue.  It's not clear whether the tool AutoZone uses will read these codes.
