Hyundai Repair: 2003 Hyundai Tiburon Keyless Entry Reset, hyundai tiburon, 2003 hyundai tiburon

Question
I've just bought a 2003 Tiburon.  It came with a key fob which does not open the doors.  Is there a way to reset the keyless entry so that I can use it with my car?

I've tried getting in the car, locking the doors, turning the key to ACC, waiting 20-30 seconds, then hitting the unlock button.  That didn't work for me.

I've also read about if the alarm is going off, how to start your car when that happens.  I can't even set my alarm to on, since the keyless entry doesn't work.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Answer
First, verify it's a problem with the vehicle not recognizing the remote rather than a power lock issue.

Do the turn signals flash when you depress the unlock button?  If so, the problem is with the power lock system.  If not, it's with the keyless system.

If the problem is indeed with the keyless system, there are three common problems: the remote, the remote battery, and remote programming.  If you have an LED on your remote, verify the LED illuminates or flashes when you depress the remote button.  If it doesn't, you'll either need a new remote or battery.  If it does, you probably need to have the vehicle programmed to recognize your remote.  This programming can only be done by a Hyundai dealer.
