Hyundai Repair: hyundai elantra 2000 brake lights, hyundai elantra, dash lights

Question
I have a 2000 elantra, when you put the brake lights on, the inside dash
lights get brighter. The cruise works unless you put the headlights on.
At night when the headlights are on, the brake lights are on all the time.

Answer
Most likely, there's an issue with one of the brake bulbs or sockets.

Remove all the tail/brake bulbs (leave the center brake bulb in place).  Check to make sure none of the terminals inside the socket are shorted together with a piece of slag from the base of the bulb.

If not, with your lights off, turn the dash dimmer to full brightness.  Then, one at a time, install a bulb and press on the brake pedal.  Make sure the bulb is properly installed.  It should push into the socket and then turn clockwise to lock into place.  If you insert a bulb that causes the dash lamps to come on when you depress the brake pedal, that bulb is shorted and needs to be replaced.  Often, you can see the wires inside the bulb touching when this is the case.
