Hyundai Repair: engine sputter, fuel issues, autozone

Question
Hi, my engine is sputtering every time i accelerate. its a 4 cylinder 5 speed and every time i shift  into a gear and apply gas it sputters until about 2800 rpms. I've given the car a tune up and also apply fuel injection cleaner with ever oil change. thinking it could be a fuel filter or maybe the pump? Also if so where are they located, and is it something i could repair on my own. Thanks.

Answer
Sputtering is typically the result of a misfire.  In most cases, misfires are caused by secondary (high voltage) ignition components.  Fuel issues are rarely the cause, but it is possible for that to be the case.

If your car is 1996 or newer, a misfire should turn on the check engine lamp.  If the lamp is on, you should start by reading the diagnostic trouble codes.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll do this for free.

To advise on the location and serviceability of the fuel pump and filter, I'll need to know the year and model of your car.
