Hyundai Repair: 04 Tiburon, 2004 hyundai tiburon, hyundai tiburon

Question
I have a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT Automatic that was hit very lightly in the front.  The air bags did deploy.  We've replaced both airbags, air bag module, and the clock spring.  The airbag light still stays on.  When we connect it to the computer, it won't let us access the airbag portion of the system.  The seatbelts don't appear to have blown.  They all pull, retract, and lock as usual.  We were hoping if we could get it hooked up to the computer, it would tell us one of the seat belts had blown, but we can't get into the airbag portion of the system.

In the past, with other 03-06 Tiburons, we've replaced the airbags, module, and clock spring, and the airbag light went off without hooking up to the computer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Answer
First, check the fuses for the air bag system.  A blown fuse is consistent both with the air bag lamp and with lack of communication with the air bag module.

If the fuses are okay, check into the possibility that the seat belts fired but the retractors still work.  You'll probably need to take it to a dealer to get the air bag system diagnosed.  The dealer's scan tool should communicate.  I'm not experienced with other scan tools to know what's available for air bag diagnostics.
