Hyundai Repair: gear oil leak, information input, boxit

Question
ive just got a 2.4santa fe 02 reg,ive noticed a leak coming from the gear boxit appears to come from between the gear box and the transfer box any ideas thanks

Answer
The transfer cases seem to have been much more prone to leakage than the transmissions.  Although I don't think the Santa Fe was available with both four wheel drive and the 2.4 engine in the U.S., there's a very nice technical service bulletin with good pictures that may help you determine what's occurring with your vehicle and the recommended repair.

Presuming you don't already have one, register for a free account at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).  Go to service information, input your year and model, and click on the TSB tab.  The go to transmission/transaxle and click on TSB 03-40-012.

Some of the leaks are simple repairs and others are more very involved.  If you have a manual transmission and the leakage is indeed between the transaxle and transfer case, you may wish to replace both the seal in the transmission and the one in the transfer case to be sure you've corrected the one that's leaking.
