Hyundai Repair: 2003 Santa Fe problem, hyundai santa fe, crank sensor

Question
I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe that only occasionally will completely cut out while going down the highway.  This has been happening since I got the car, but we have narrowed it down to only happening in warm weather.  The RPM gauge will go down to 0 and the check engine light comes on, and the gas pedal does nothing.  However, this corrects itself and we can resume normal driving within 20 - 30 seconds. This problem can become dangerous and we are very concerned - what do you think?

Answer
If you have less than 60,000 miles on the vehicle, I'd recommend taking it to your local dealer for warranty service.

The problem is that the cause could be in a large number of places.  The first thing I'd do would be to attach a scan tool and read the trouble codes in the hopes of finding a hint as to the nature of the problem.

Realistically, however, you could have a problem with the crank sensor, the fuel pump, the ECM relay, or a poor connection in the wiring in any number of places critical to ECM operation.
