Hyundai Repair: 2001 accent auto trans, transmission control module, programming updates

I have a situation when you shift into drive from park or reverse,the trans hesitates going into gear(2-3 seconds).It goes fine into reverse and shifts beautifully.It has only 72k miles and the dealer tried computer programming updates but ended up saying the trans has to be rebuilt.

The dealer's diagnosis is probably correct.  There's at least one TSB detailing a procedure to check for proper transmission control module (TCM) operation in regard to your issue, but I don't recall the TCM ever being the issue.  

Since you're at the dealer and they've already done the reprogramming updates, it sounds like they've consulted the appripriate TSBs and are applying the proper diagnostic procedures.  Hence, they should know about the procedure for checking proper TCM operation as well.
