Hyundai Repair: hyundai accent 2001, hyundai accent 2001, crank sensor

Question
I have a 2001 hyundai accent that has done 70000 kilometers and had my fuel pump changed as my car kept on stalling, and had to tap the fuel pump in order to get it going again that didn't work.... now my mechanic hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and told me that the crank sensor has died and also my oxygen sensor is playing up.... my question is should these things be going wrong with a relatively new car... or should i give the dealer a ring..... nothing happened to the car while in warranty.

Answer
In my opinion, these failures shouldn't happen.  Nor would I expect them to happen on a majority of the vehicles.  Nonetheless, sometimes they do happen.

A faulty crank sensor is certainly consistent with a stalling issue.  The oxygen sensor, on the other hand, typically does little to affect the driveability of the car other than to turn on the check engine lamp.

If your mechanic is capable and trustworthy, stick with him.  Since you're out of the warranty period, there's little the dealer will be able to do for you other than fix the vehicle at your expense.  On the other hand, if you're not satisfied with the service you're receiving from your mechanic, you might go to another or to the dealer in an effort to find someone who will better satisfy your needs.
