Hyundai Repair: Fuel tank air filter and canister locations, charcoal canister, tank air

Question
I bought a 2007 Sonata with a 4 cyl automatic. The maintenance manual says to replace the Fuel Tank Air Filter at 30k. The dealers don't seem to have a clue what I'm talking about. What is the part number and location? Also, can you give the same info for the canister which is to be replaced at 45K?  THANKS

Answer
Sorry for taking so long, Dale.  I wanted to check an owner's manual and look up the parts, and I needed to wait until I returned to work to do that.

In the 2007 Sonata manual I checked, I saw a recommendation for the fuel tank air filter that you mention, but nothing for the canister.  It would be my presumption that by "fuel tank air filter," Hyundai is referring to the filter for the charcoal canister.

The part number in the catalog for the canister filter is 31453-3k500, but I have some concern about whether the number is correct.  In the picture it looks more like a zip tie than a filter.

The part number for the charcoal canister is 31420-3k600, but I cannot see any reason why replacing it would be necessary maintenance.  As long as you don't overfill the fuel tank, the canister should last the life of the car.
