Hyundai Repair: timing setting marks, balance shaft, hyundai sonata

Question
Would you be able to tell me the timing setting marks for a hyundai sonata 97 twin cam.

Answer
You'll want to align the camshafts with the dowels up, and the marks on the sprockets across from one another and even with the top surface of the head.

Align the mark on the upper balance shaft sprocket with the mark on the front case.  This should be at about 3 O'Clock.

Align the mark on the crankshaft sprocket with the pointer on the front case.  If my diagram is correct, this should be at about 2 O'Clock.

The lower balance shaft and oil pump sprocket should be aligned with the pointer on the front case.  If my diagram is correct, this should be at about 11 O'Clock.  Before you install the timing belt, turn the oil pump/balance shaft sprocket away from alignment a small amount.  If it tends to go back, you've got it aligned correctly.  If it wants to keep turning around, you should rotate the sprocket 360 degrees.  This is necessary because the balance shaft turns 1.5 times for every one revolution of this sprocket.
